Second Coworkout: Fort Mifflin

We had our second Coworkout session at Fort Mifflin yesterday. We were up on the rampart above the casemates, with cannons going off, boats gliding by, and planes landing overhead. Here we are, right up against the top of the walls:

Coworkout: @r38y, @chrisconley, and @tikaro

The Sandex was ONE. HUNDRED. PERCENT, with the temperature in the upper sixties, the humidity at 25%, and the brick walls sheltering us from the winds.

The router worked really well, too: here’s a picture of the Kyocera KR-2 router, up on top of Kate’s tripod. The signal didn’t drop out once all day, and the throughput was enough to videoconference with. At one point, I held up the laptop and tracked a plane landing overhead, so my client could watch the FedEx plane going FWOOOSH. It was pretty great.

Coworkout Access Point

Here’s Chris, with Mike-the-cannon-shooting-guy, who was giving black-powder demonstrations to schoolkids down on the main open interior of the fort. Mike has a big leather satchel full of gunpowder and fulminate-of-mercury charges, and he’s got metal hobnails on his leather shoes:

After the cannon goes FOOOM (it’s very, VERY satisfying), Mike yells “Three cheers for General Washington! Hip Hip…” and you have to yell “Huzzah!” three times or he gets mad. Also, little-known historical fact: cannon smoke smells like farts!

Our next coworkout will be on the highest-Sandex day next week; I’m hoping that’ll be Tuesday or Wednesday. Follow @coworkout on Twitter to find out where and when we’re going to be!

  1. Oh man. I’m so jealous. Stupid heavy Mac Pro…
I found that I could take my bike on the RR to Eastwick and have a quick ride. I hope you do Fort Mifflin again.

  2. Oh, we’ll DEFINITELY be at Fort Mifflin again. Many times, probably. Unlike the Guerilla Drive-In, we’re not going to be placing a premium on secrecy or seeing new places, but rather have a portfolio of four or five spots of surpassing awesomeness that we rotate through.

The fun will be discovering those four or five spots of surpassing awesomeness!
