One of the highest points in Chester County, the Lanchester Scenic Overlook was a working municipal landfill until 2000, when it was capped with grass, and pavilions were built for the public.
Believe it or not, the scenic overlook is a beautiful, breezy spot. No, seriously. It’s grassy, and you can see hawks flying below you, and there are pipes to carry the methane away to the generating station where electricity is made. It’s green, and high-tech, and awesome!
The power we’ll use will come from the windmill right above our heads, and the methane generator down the hill. Every electron you use will be a green electron! Brag about it to your clients! Tweet green!
We’ll meet at 9:00 AM in West Chester to ride motorcycles (or caravan in cars) out to the landfill. In the afternoon, we’ll come back to West Chester for a swim, finishing up at 5:00 PM.
Particulars
- Interestingness: High. Two shady pavilions, a horse-buggy hitch, and giant trash-mangling machines crawling up and down the hill across from us.
- Stinkiness: None. It’s a big, grassy hill, as far as you can tell. Except for the big hissing pipes carrying methane to the generator!
- Microclimate: Pretty good. Shady pavilions. Come prepared for some breezes, though, it gets windy up there. Your laptop lid might shake some.
- Wi-Fi: Shared EvDO, thin pipe.
- Power: Standard 110v grid (not generator.)
- Restrooms: Port-O-Sans on site.
- Handicapped access: Yes.
- Dogs:
Not permittedPermitted on a leash (thanks, Chris T.!) - Food: None on site. Pizza across the street.
- Coffee: None on site. Bring a thermos.
